Celebrating a Decade of Thrills: Keweenaw Roller Derby Invites You to Join In

Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) is celebrating its 10th year of thrilling roller derby action this year and inviting everyone to join in on the festivities. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, flat-track roller derby team based in the Copper Country, KRD supports individuals aged 18 and above who are committed to working hard and having fun, regardless of their shape, size, orientation or athleticism.

If you’re looking for an exciting night out, KRD has home bouts scheduled at the Calumet Colosseum on May 25, June 22, July 13 and August 31. Tickets are only $5 at the door and kids under the age of 10 can attend for free. The doors open at 5 pm on bout day with the first whistle blowing at 6 pm. The first bout, the 10th Annual Solar System Smackdown, has a ’50s theme so attendees are encouraged to dress up to show their support.

For those interested in joining KRD as a skater, they have a new skater program starting in July. An information session will be held on June 20 at 7 pm at the Colosseum. They will provide gear for you to try on and explain all the rules of roller derby so you can feel comfortable and welcome on the team regardless of your skill level.
