As cities and towns across the country search for ways to attract new residents, several places are offering cash incentives. One of these is Tulsa, Oklahoma, which recently offered Ryann Cooke $10,000 to move there from Washington, DC. Cooke, who works in social media and is in her late 20s, found the money a nice bonus, but it was the overall cost of living in Tulsa that truly sold her on the city. She was able to afford living on her own for the first time thanks to Tulsa’s lower expenses.
Tulsa’s program, Tulsa Remote, is one of the most well-known relocation incentive initiatives in the country. Similar programs in the Midwest and South aim to increase population and stimulate the local economy by attracting new residents with cash incentives. These programs are becoming increasingly popular as cities and towns look for ways to bring in new talent and boost spending.
Here are seven towns and cities that pay people to move there:
1. Albuquerque, New Mexico: The city offers $15,000 to remote workers who move there full-time.
2. Boulder County, Colorado: The county offers up to $37,500 for remote workers who move there within a year of being hired by a local company.
3. Des Moines Iowa: The city offers $5,000 for those who move from out of state or other rural areas within a year of being hired by an employer with at least 51 employees.
4. Green Bay Wisconsin: The city offers up to $15
