The current presidential candidate has been described as someone who uses fear and hate as weapons, silencing dissent and undermining the rule of law. His rhetoric suggests that almost everyone should be seen as a threat, particularly immigrants, whether they are legal or undocumented. Those who are Black or brown or speak with an accent are highlighted as his chosen victims. In his narrative, immigrants are portrayed as criminals, murderers, rapists, and gang members who are here to cause harm. However, the reality is quite different, as the surge of immigration beginning in 2022 has actually led to significant economic growth in the United States following the pandemic. This growth is expected to continue, with immigrants contributing greatly to GDP and tax revenues.

In contrast to the current candidate’s views, former President Ronald Reagan once spoke about the importance of new arrivals and their contributions to the nation. He emphasized the energy, new ideas, and leadership that immigrants bring, expressing a more positive outlook on their impact. Contrary to popular belief, statistics show that violent crimes, murders, and property crimes have decreased significantly, with immigrants bringing dreams and aspirations with them to the country. Embracing these newcomers and their potential for growth can help move the nation forward away from the darkness that one candidate’s rhetoric has cast over it.
