Richard Ingram, a student at Meharry Medical College, has recently been appointed to the Green Bay Packers medical staff for training camp. This addition is part of the NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative, which aims to increase and diversify the pipeline of students interested in pursuing careers in sports medicine.
Ingram specializes in orthopedics and played outside linebacker/strong safety at Mississippi College, where he majored in biology medical science with a minor in psychology. He was also recognized as a 2022 Nth Dimensions Scholar, an organization that supports underrepresented minorities and women in the field of medicine.
The NFL launched this league-wide expansion of the initiative in 2022, in collaboration with the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS) and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS). The program provides medical students with clinical rotations with NFL club medical staff. The goal is to make a positive impact on the medical field by increasing diversity among NFL club medical staff over time.
