In Grand Rapids, Michigan, businesses on Wealthy Street have been targeted by thieves in recent break-ins. Two businesses, Wealthy Street Bakery and Good Judys Market and Juice Bar, have fallen victim to the crime spree within less than a week. The incidents have left many business owners feeling frustrated and disappointed.
Wealthy Street Bakery was the first to be broken into last Thursday at around 5 a.m. The robbers, wearing masks, attempted to break in through the front door but were unsuccessful. They then threw a piece of asphalt through a side window, but fortunately for them, they were unable to find any cash as the registers are not left out overnight. As a result, they left empty-handed.
Just east of Wealthy Street Bakery, Good Judys Market and Juice Bar also fell victim to a similar break-in. A large piece of asphalt was thrown through the glass door, forcing the business to close for the remainder of the day. Operations Manager Ashley Havemeier expressed frustration that it was unlikely that the businesses kept large amounts of cash on site.
The Grand Rapids Police Department is currently investigating both incidents, but it is unclear if they are connected. Business owners in the area are on edge and hoping for a swift resolution to these troubling events.
