The Government of Bolivia has strongly condemned the statements made by the Office of the President of Argentina, Javier Miley, regarding the events that took place in Bolivia last Wednesday. The Minister of the Presidency of Bolivia, Maria Nela Prada, who also performs the duties of interim chancellor, summoned Argentina’s ambassador Marcelo Massoni to express her rejection of Miley’s statements.
The Arce government is particularly disappointed with the way Miley has attempted to tarnish its reputation and undermine its democratic institutions by accusing it of controlling all three branches of government and having over 200 political prisoners. These accusations have no basis in reality and are nothing more than a baseless attack on Bolivian democracy.
In response to these unfriendly and reckless statements, former president Evo Morales questioned their veracity and accused the Argentine government of staging a self-coup. He went as far as calling President Arce a liar for describing events as a coup attempt when they were nothing more than an armed uprising led by dismissed soldiers.
Despite these disagreements between the two countries, both governments agree that what happened in Bolivia last Wednesday was a serious violation of democratic principles and must be thoroughly investigated. While some may see it as an attempted military coup, others view it as an armed uprising against legitimate authority. Regardless of how one views it, there is no denying that events in Bolivia have sparked controversy and disagreement between Argentina and other countries in South America.
