As a journalist, I am writing on behalf of the Cincinnati Health Department to address the concerns raised in the article by Betsy Kim titled “Health care in peril, Over-the-Rhine residents fear their clinic will close.” The article suggests that Cincinnati health officials are considering relocation and consolidation plans, with most plans involving the closure of the Bobbie Sterne Health Center.
It is important to clarify that no decisions have been made regarding the Bobbie Sterne Health Center. The information in the article is based on recommendations from a consultant hired in 2023. The Cincinnati Health Department hired Jensen Partners to conduct a study on all our facilities to determine the most cost-effective way to provide quality care to our patients. These recommendations are currently under review.
The Cincinnati Health Department takes pride in delivering high-quality services through its health centers, but recognizes the need for periodic reassessment of its ability to meet patient needs. One such issue is long wait times for service, which can be attributed to physical limitations in our current facilities.
As we progress with our review and planning, we are committed to engaging with the community and exploring all options available to us while ensuring transparent communication throughout the process. Our primary focus remains on improving the health and wellness of Cincinnati citizens and ensuring access to public health services. Grant Mussman, commissioner of the Cincinnati Health Department, is dedicated to leading these efforts.
