The US, Egypt, and Qatar, who are serving as mediators in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations, have issued a joint statement calling on Israel and Hamas to come to an agreement to end the conflict. The three countries have endorsed the proposals put forth by US President Joe Biden on Friday, stating that the agreement should encompass the demands of all parties involved and bring immediate relief to the people of Gaza, as well as the hostages and their families.
According to the proposed agreement, it is seen as a pathway towards achieving a permanent truce and resolving the crisis in the region. Biden’s plan suggests a six-week ceasefire, followed by negotiations for a lasting cessation of hostilities and the reconstruction of Gaza. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed hesitation towards accepting a deal that calls for a permanent ceasefire before the elimination of Hamas.
