Bexar County Invests $5 Million in New UTSA Sports Facility for Public Use

1 min read

Bexar County commissioners have recently approved a $5 million investment into a new sports facility at UTSA, which will be accessible to residents. The facility, known as the “Roadrunner NEST,” will be built on the main campus starting in January 2025 and is expected to be completed by December 2026. In addition to the county’s investment, the City of San Antonio is also contributing an equal amount towards the project.

UTSA officials expect the $35 million facility to benefit a significant portion of the local community, with approximately half of UTSA’s students being Bexar County residents. The Roadrunner NEST will be open to the public for competitive events and youth sports, while also serving as the home for UTSA’s men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams.

County Commissioner Grant Moody emphasized that the Roadrunner NEST will be available for use by everyone in the community, not just UTSA students. He highlighted the importance of joint use opportunities for the county and city. With this new facility, residents of Bexar County will have access to top-notch sports facilities that they can use for their own activities or watch professional athletes compete in.
