Austria’s domestic aviation industry is set to undergo a major transition, with the Ministry of Transport announcing a public tender for the position of Managing Director at Austro-Control. The company has been serving as the state air traffic controller since 2015 and will be leaving at the end of April. The search for a new leader has begun, with applicants having until April 29th to apply for the role.
The current head of Austro-Control, Maria Hackl, has recently served on the supervisory board of Ankerbrot Holding and its operating subsidiary, Anker Snack & Coffee GmbH. She has also been appointed to the holding’s supervisory board at Strabag, Europe’s largest construction company.
In February, Kerstin Gelbmann took over as chairman of the supervisory board at Strabag, replacing Alfred Gusenbauer. Gelbmann is also Grossnigg’s right-hand person and serves as the head of the supervisory board at Ankerbrot, as well as a board member of Austro Holding and the Haselsteiner Family Private Foundation.
Karin Exner-Wöhrer, a former supervisory board member at Salzburger Aluminum, parted ways with Haselsteiner and Grossnigg due to issues surrounding the insolvent Signa company. Despite facing changes in leadership, Hackl has been commended for her contributions to Austro Control during a critical period.
Before her role at Austro Control, Hackl served on the board of ÖBB passenger transport and worked as an assistant to former CEO and SPÖ leader Christian Kern. Following the Ibiza scandal, she briefly served as interim Transport Minister under Sebastian Short. As
